We are thrilled to bring you the June edition of “The Buddy Beat,” your go-to newsletter for all things inclusive and uplifting. As we dive into the summer season, this month holds special significance as we celebrate four remarkable occasions: Pride Month, Juneteenth, Autistic Pride Day and Caribbean American Heritage Month.
🌈 Pride Month: Throughout June, we honor and celebrate the LGBTQ+ community, their rich history, and their ongoing fight for equality and acceptance. Let's stand together, champion love and diversity, and continue the journey towards a more inclusive world.
🧩Autistic Pride Day is an annual observance that takes place on June 18th to celebrate and promote acceptance, understanding, and appreciation of individuals living with autism. It is a day dedicated to embracing neurodiversity and recognizing the unique strengths and perspectives of individuals on the autism spectrum.
🎉 Juneteenth: On June 19th, we commemorate Juneteenth, a day that holds immense historical significance. It marks the liberation of enslaved African Americans in the United States and serves as a powerful reminder of the ongoing pursuit of racial justice and equality.
🌴 Caribbean American Heritage Month: June is also dedicated to celebrating the vibrant culture, contributions, and heritage of Caribbean Americans.
June 12th - Virtual Talent Show at 7pm!! Now is your chance to show everyone your talents. Everyone that wants to share will have 5 minutes to show their talent to the group. Don’t want to show your talents? No problem! RSVP as an audience member and cheer on your friends.
June 15th - Bowling Night!! Join us at Bowlero on Kirkwood Highway on Thursday June 15th at 6:30pm. Everyone is responsible for paying for their own games, shoes, snacks etc..
June 21st - 7pm. Do you like public speaking? Do you like advocating for your community? Now is your chance to become a Best Buddies Ambassador! We will be hosting a 2 hour virtual training on how to give a great elevator pitch. After the training you will officially start your journey as a Best Buddies Ambassador.
June 27th - Join us at 8pm for a Virtual Show and Tell! Bring something to show the group and be ready to tell everyone why you decided to bring that item and why it is important to you. Can’t wait to see what you decide to bring.

Best Buddies Leadership Conference (BBLC) unites Best Buddies leaders, volunteers, and community advocates from around the globe to imagine, create, lead and empower the future of the disability rights and inclusion movement. Over the past 30 years, BBLC has inspired thousands of leaders to be Best Buddies advocates and to bring about social change in their communities.
In 2023, BBLC will once again be held as an in-person experience at Indiana University in Bloomington, Indiana and will bring together leaders in from all over the world to learn about the Best Buddies movement. We encourage all Best Buddies leaders in our schools and communities to join us in July!
This conference experience will offer opportunities to learn from professional presenters, participate in small group discussions, engage with experts, and choose from a diverse variety of education sessions that will inform, inspire, and advance your role in the disability rights movement

Bright Minds Forward: Hi! We are a brand new Student-led Organization at the University of Delaware called Bright Minds Forward! Our mission is to create an inclusive and entertaining opportunity in Delaware where people with and without IDD can collaborate with others, learn new skills, and express themselves creatively in the Arts and Science and Engineering (STEM)! We host fun events on campus such as Vinyl painting and creating Water Bottle Rockets! We also prioritize discussing topics of eliminating ableism and how to become a disability ally.
